An estimated 86% of the nation’s $2.7 trillion annual health care costs are spent on chronic and mental health conditions. With those statistics it’s no wonder as to why Health Coaching has grown into a $6 billion service market, with an estimated 100,000 Health Coaches working with clients to change lifestyle habits and help improve chronic conditions. Health Coaches can play an important role in the overall healthcare equation by reducing a great percentage of healthcare costs. In 2019 drug sales alone were over 500 billion dollars!
The unfortunate issue with modern healthcare is most doctors are primarily taught how to diagnose and treat disease, and are not trained to help patients change unhealthy behaviors. They also do not have the time. On average more than two months is required to successfully make a behavior change.
As a Health Coach or Professional, the main goal is to help clients cultivate a healthier lifestyle that can improve chronic conditions such as obesity, hypertension, diabetes, anxiety and so many more. Often times Functional Health Coaches and Practitioners are able to help clients understand the underlying causes of their poor health, providing answers to questions that doctors just don’t have. The presence of Health Coaches can also lessen the strain put on our health care system (which we all know is actually a “disease care” system). With Health Coaches incorporated, everyone wins.
However, there is a large need for Health Coaches in our world today. You too can become part of a National Society of Health Coaches that are working to change the lives of clients each and every day.
As a Health Coach, some of your responsibilities may include:
- Assessing a client’s current health status
- Developing health goals for a client
- Creating a client’s personal action plan
- Providing accountability
- Documenting his or her progress
If you are interested in a health coaching career, there are many educational options to consider. A bachelor’s degree is considered a professional standard, especially in a related discipline such as nutrition, counseling, fitness, psychology, wellness, nursing or health care.
A Health Coach Certification is also a great way to acquire professional skills. Credentialing associations such as the American Council on Exercise (ACE) and the National Society of Health Coaches (NSHC) administer examinations to individuals that want to attain the distinction of certified health coaches (CHCs).
Of course there is no equivalent to the superior training and skills of Functional Diagnostic Nutrition® Practitioners. The FDN training helps you understand the mental/emotional, physiological, bio-chemical and behavioral factors required to improve your client’s overall health and well-being. You can become part of a community consisting of over 3,000 FDN trainees in over 50 different countries and tap into the collective knowledge of a tightknit community.
A Health Coaching Community with elevated standards.
Functional Diagnostic Nutrition® (FDN) is also an accredited program with the most trusted and well-recognized brand and the longest history of training health coaches, professionals, and health-minded people like you in the functional health industry. As an added benefit your certification makes you eligible for Board Certifications through several different associations including:

- American Association of Natural Wellness Practitioners (AANWP).

These organizations are dedicated to promoting an enhanced professional image and prestige among health coaches and practitioners of traditional and non-traditional therapies and methodologies.
